Obituary for Jerry A. Wright

Jerry A. Wright, 81, of Marshall, Indiana passed away December 13, 2019 at Ben Hur Health & Rehabilitation in Crawfordsville. Born August 16, 1938 in Vermillion County, Indiana he was the son of Chloral and Mildred Reed Wright. He married Maurleen Harper on March 23, 1958 at Salem Church near Hillsdale. They were blessed to have 55 years together enjoying many trips, vacations and several retirement years in Florida until her passing on December 20, 2013.

Jerry graduated from St. Bernice High School in 1956, he spent the next summer with his good friend Bill Bradley working as a section hand on the railroad based out of the St. Bernice area. The family moved to Parke County in 1960 to a farm north of Judson, into Marshall in 1967 and to northern Parke County, Grange Corner area in 1971. While being involved in farming all his life, he also worked for Funks Seed and Overpeck Gas Company through the 60’s. He then farmed full-time for several years and then worked at Nucor Steel through retirement.

He enjoyed many hobbies including antique cars and tractors, Smith Miller trucks and wood working. He was a member of the Bloomingdale Lodge #127 F&AM, the Marshall Lions Club, and during the mid to late 70’s he served on the Turkey Run School Board, Parke County Fair Board and was a supporter in many capacities. Jerry was a member of the Marshall Federated Church and worked with many people at numerous fundraisers to help build the present-day church after the unfortunate fire of the original church in the 1960’s. He used his woodworking skills to build a wooden replica of the original church, which is on display in the front lobby of the church

He is survived by a daughter, Cynthia McClure (Michael) of Crawfordsville; son, Allen Wright (Chris) of Marshall; Granddaughter Samantha Freed (Josh) and great-grandson Harper of West Point, Indiana; and a very special friend, Nancy Tate. Also surviving are his sister, Evelyn Hixon; sister-in-law, Susan Harper; and many nieces and nephews.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, wife , 2 brothers-in-law, Jim Hixon and Marion Harper and son-in-law, Ron Thorpe.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at the Marshall Federated Church, 105 North Main Street, Marshall, Indiana. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, December 18, 2019, 2:00 pm at the church, with Pastor Brian Holt officiating. Burial will follow at Poplar Grove Cemetery, north of Marshall. Barnes and Rice Funeral Home of Rockville assisted with arrangements.
